Trust and Estate Administration

The experience of the Private Client department in dealing with Trusts and Estates is part of what sets Taylor Walton apart from many other law firms.

We act for individuals and trustees and often have work referred to us by large City accountancy firms and other referrers.

The Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) is the professional body for trust and estate practitioners. Both Richard Crocker and Alison Voyce, together with Tony Roberts and Catherine Nixon are members of STEP.

We can advise trustees on their obligations under the Trustee Act 2000 and under general law and work alongside the trust's accountants and financial advisers.

Tax is often a key issue that trustees must consider when acting and our experienced team is well placed to advise on tax issues.

Dealing with the administration of a loved one's estate in an efficient and professional manner is something that our Private Client Department prides itself on.

We are able to advise executors on their obligations and to prepare an application for a Grant of Representation and to file the relevant returns with HM Revenue & Customs.

We can advise on possible inheritance tax mitigation through the use of Deeds of Variation and the availability of Agricultural Property Relief and/or Business Property Relief for inheritance tax purposes.

Following the changes to inheritance tax announced in the Pre-Budget Report and the introduction of transferable nil rate bands for spouses and registered civil partners, the need to administer estates properly and to keep records has become even more important.

We offer a full estates administration service and regularly deal with complex estates, which may contain for example assets overseas, valuable properties or chattels, business assets or missing beneficiaries.
