Expertise:

Mike qualified in 1979 and joined Taylor Walton (then Taylor Walker) in 1984, becoming a partner later that year. He has specialised in commercial property work throughout his professional life. Mike was involved when the firm secured Barnardo's as a client in 1986, since when the firm has handled the majority of Barnardo's property work and Mike has developed an expertise in handling the acquisition, disposal and leasing of charity property.

Mike's particular specialism is Landlord and Tenant law, including acting for both landlords and tenants in the preparation and negotiation of commercial leases. This is a constantly changing area of the law where it is essential that lawyers keep as up-to-date as possible, not just on developments in property law but also in such matters as VAT and the new stamp duty land tax, of which a commercial property lawyer now needs to have a sound working knowledge. Mike has over the years presented several lectures and seminars on these developments in the law, as well as keeping Taylor Walton's own commercial property lawyers abreast of any changes when they happen.

Mike is now the firm's Finance Partner and has been a member of the Management Board since 2001. He is the firm's contact with our bankers and accountants and is in overall charge of the firm's accounts and credit control functions.
